Nordine House
The Nordine House is an exploration of materiality, light, and the seamless integration of architecture within the terraced landscape. Located in the lush Greenfeld area of Westville, Durban, South Africa, the design emphasizes framing the surrounding garden with crisp, horizontal lines.
Celebrating raw materials, the house gently blurs the boundary between the built structure and the natural landscape. This unrefined materiality highlights the transparency and integrity of the architectural elements at its core.
By thoughtfully manipulating materials and forms, we aimed to shift perceptions. Chamfering harsh edges reveals the subtle elegance of concrete, while concrete frames supported by steel columns transform what is typically heavy and cumbersome into something light and dynamic.
